Sacred Kingfisher

Sacred Kingfisher

A pair of Sacred Kingfishers nest in a nearby paddock in a dead willow tree and is obliging me with acrobatics and flying displays.

Sacred Kingfishers are normally greener - this small open ground bird may have a little Forest Kingfisher in the mix.

I first saw one of these little guys back at the start of the year - it was nice to find a pair and a nest.

At that time, a friend suggested it could be one of 3 possibilities, Forest Kingfisher, Scared Kingfisher or the Collared Kingfisher pointing out that it is very hard to tell the 3 apart without clear lighting.
