What you see

This is what I saw.

But when I pointed the camera at it, the closest I could get was these...

Neither appealed.  Using layers in Photoshop cc I combined the images and arrived at:

Which was perhaps technically correct - all the elements are in focus.  

But it still was not what I saw.

To get the translucent image, slightly glowing in the afternoon light, I added the images together, with the sharp cloud layer at 50%.  This was closest to my recollection of the scene.
