Male Nankeen Kestral - Windhover

In the foothills of the old volcano Palerang, on the boundary of forest and farm land, a good living may be made by small birds of prey.

I have been watching a female Nankeen Kestral for some time, wondering whether her mate was near to hand.  Until today I had not seen him.  Today he came down to have a closer look at me.

Male Nankeen Kestrals have a grey head - and are a little smaller than a female.
