Warrumbungles - Emus at dawn

A series of photos taken just outside the Warrumbungles National Park.

Individuals

Each individual has a distinct look.

Fights

At day-break, males fight.  The fights are fast, involving puffing chests out, running to another male, and then it all goes a bit wrong.  They have to stand on one foot - striking out with the second - while trying to keep balance with small truncated wings.  The fights are over quickly, with the emu that looses balance running.

A sequence shot in low light, just before dawn.

A further sequence - included for the surprised look on one Emu's face.
